Due to a long history as a cultural crossroads, Zanzibar features attractions that blend African tradition with Arabic and Indian influences. Nowhere is this more evident than in the capital city of Stonetown, a tourist destination whose crumbling walls and maze-like streets beg for exploration.
Zanzibar’s collection of unique animal life can be seen at the centrally located Jozani National Forest Reserve, and visitors can also enjoy an abundance of sea turtles in the northern fishing town of Ras Nungwi. At the other end of the island, the village of Kizimkazi offers boat tours that allow visitors to get up close and personal with the area’s many bottle-nosed dolphins.

Zanzibar weather and climate
Zanzibar is a tropical island with a warm climate. Average temperatures hover in the 80’s, with warmer temperatures in the summer months. The island breeze keeps the worst of the heat away, but visitors should pack plenty of sunscreen, bottled water, and billowy clothing to avoid sunburn and dehydration.
Because of the heat and humidity, mosquitoes are a hazard on the island. Anyone traveling to Zanzibar must have proof of protection against malaria and yellow fever. This is for the traveler’s own safety. Insect repellant, protective clothing, and mosquito nets can minimize the risk of catching these diseases while on the island.
